Abstract

This study aims to reveal the ideology and power relations underlying the program Mata Najwa episode “Usai Pemilu” broadcast on Trans7. The research employs a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach using the analytical model proposed by Teun A. van Dijk. The results show the following findings. First, the macrostructure of the discourse constructed by the host, Najwa Shihab, in the episode “Usai Pemilu” is reflected in the main theme and topics presented, which focus on events occurring after the election. Second, the superstructure of the discourse is evident in the program’s structure, consisting of an introduction, a discussion segment emphasizing factual information, and a closing section delivered through poetic and meaningful expressions. Third, the microstructure of the program can be analyzed through several linguistic aspects: the semantic dimension highlights the meanings embedded in the discourse; the syntactic dimension focuses on the sentence structures used; the stylistic dimension shows Najwa Shihab’s tendency to use straightforward, firm, transparent, and direct language; and the rhetorical dimension appears in her style of delivering both the opening and closing segments with poetic emphasis. Fourth, based on Van Dijk’s analytical model, the program Mata Najwa tends to reflect an ideology of objectivity, neutrality, balance, and consistency. Fifth, power in the program “Usai Pemilu” is represented through Najwa Shihab’s direct and assertive moderation style, which provides balanced opportunities for the speakers to express their views. Power is also manifested in her ability to control the flow of the discussion by determining who is allowed to speak, who must remain silent, and who only listens.
